In To Win

It's official. Billy boy [the "gov"] has announced his plans to run for president.
He's a long shot. I think he would be more successful on a Clinton/Richardson ticket but things always start out this way I guess. On This Week with George Stephanopoulos he said he was not interested in a Vice Presidential slot....yeah right.

I feel more comfortable with Billy as Vice President then I would an in-experienced Obama though. It will be an interesting political season. Of note, on Jay Leno's JAYWALKING segment a guy was shown a picture of Bill Richardson and asked if he knew who it was and the guy responded that he looked like one of the guys from The Soprano's. haha....Bill Richardson may be head of the Governor's Association but he has a long way to go to being a household name. I'm on board though. GO BILLY!

Hey Paddy--what's your thought on Billy??

I'm out.

puddin' head

Yeah...its cooooold outside and snowy and the streets are slick but when my stomache starts craving rice puddin' there is only one place to go: CHILI EXPRESS.

My favorite dish at Chili Express on Gibson near KAFB is the No. 27: stuffed sopapilla.
A sopapilla is sort of like a pita bread but when fried it inflates. When nicely browned you slit it open and put in your favorite fixins, usually beans meat or rice. I get the beef stuffed sopa with green chili. Other fixins like lettuce tomatoe olives are thrown in. Oh man....its my favorite meal here so far. For desert you HAVE to try the rice pudding. Creamy rice with raisins and cinammon and shaved almonds and whip cream. Oh man I just gained 10 pounds writing this. Worth it though. ha ha I have rice puddin' and you don't.

I'm out.

One two punch...

When forcasted our last snowstorm was not supposed to rival the one we had the week before which dumped abut 8 inches in Albuquerque. It turned out to be the storm of the century dropping 2 feet of snow in some areas more in the east mountains breaking all previous snowfall records.

Now comes our first storm of 2007 and by all accounts its supposed to be a big one and hit the entire state. For you east-coasters [Dale, Craig, Esq.] this isn't much to you but here in the 'desert southwest' its by all means, 'something', hahaha. I guess I better get the camera ready and pull out some thicked lugged boots. No trip to Arizona for me this weekend. It's beginning to look alot like Christmas. What do you know...my Christmas spirit just arrived.

fyi

It's been awhile since my last post, just been a busy year and its only just started.

My uncle passed away a few days before Christmas . At the same time the Albuquerque area was hit by two big snow storms of record proportions preventing me from taking my dad to the funeral in Arizona. To top it off my dad had to go into hospital for an unexpected procedure so that sidelined him for a few days. We are still waiting for improved weather so we can at least pay our respects to my aunt. It is only a four and a half hour drive but he road between here and Winslow, AZ can be dangerous in bad weather.

I was going to complain about the 15 degree temps but I see my buddy Dale in Maine has let the air out of that balloon with his report of 3 degrees and a minus 25 degree windchill. He also had to rub it in by mentioning he has a fireplace!! haha..[hugs n gropes, Dale].

So I thought I'd post a few slivers of life here from the past few weeks. I had hoped to start the year off with a photo essay of Route 66 as it winds through the city but I'll have to wait for better weather.

Watch out for those ice slicks

Alot colder then it looks. It was 15 degrees with a windchill of 8 when I took this. Brrrrr

I'm out.

..pack your bags...

...and so begins another free trip around the sun.

It's still very cold here. The streets are still iced over and snowmen are still standing guard. January is usually the month we really get our winter weather and if its anything like December we're in for a doozie. I hope to take several adventures in the state this year count on me having my camera close by. I snapped this picture yesterday morning. The sun was just rising and the moon was setting. This picture does not do justice to the actual look of the sky...it was quite beautiful AND it was a balmy 14 degrees.

STORMWATCH 2006!!! Film at 11

As this storm draws to a close so does the year. It's been an awkward year for me. I'm still getting use to my new surroundings. I hope the upcoming year has many adventures for me. Of course, I will share them with you. Have a safe and healthy New Years everyone and to all a good night.

"Let's go tubin' now everybody's tubin' now come on go tubin' with meeeee!!"

The Fog and the Glitter

As beautiful as the snow looks... the aftermath can be very aggrivating. Ice EVERYWHERE. Cars slipping and sliding all over the roads, spin outs etc etc.

The icicles are cool and there is this meteorological effect that for the lack of the actual name I'll call the 'glitter effect'. As the snow begins to melt the sun reflects off the rising water vapor and you see this glittery effect in the air. Sort of like seeing someone "beam" up. Pretty cool. Doesn't photograph well though.

Also, the fog can be a monster.

The fog comes
on little cat feet.

It sits looking
over harbor and city
on silent haunches
and then moves on.
-- carl sanburg

I don't know what happened to Antonio Bay tonight.
Something came out of the fog and tried to destroy us.
In one moment, it vanished.
To the ships at sea who can hear my voice,
look across the water, into the darkness.
Look for the fog.

...more snimages

Well we broke a few records indeed. Largest snow fall recorded in city history.

Can't recall when the city last looked so beautiful.

My newphew stationed in San Diego was due in last night but his plane kept getting delayed. I had to WALK to the airport about a mile away to meet up with him and WALK back home with him and his gear. Navigation on the road just wasn't happening.

This is a Mosk near by. I say its a rocket launcher and a damn purdy one too.

This car isn't going anywhere.

Neither is my truck.

What a mess, eh.

An Antarctic weather station?? No, a warehouse near by.

Picture speaks for itself....hahaha

At the airport.

Looking the fool in the snow. This is only December...our worst weather usually comes in January if you can believe that!

I'm out.

It's not like I had to work today.

Snow + Images = Snimages

Round two. More snow. Not not much one can do when the weather is like this.

A Change at Christmas

I know that everything changes
Its strange how time marches on
Well maybe there will be some time in the future
Tell me I'm not wrong

If I could stop time
It would be a frozen moment just around Christmas
When all of mankind reveals its truest potential
And there is sympathy for the suffering
And there is sympathy for those who are suffering
And the world embraces peace and love and mercy
Instead of power and fear
And as sure as I'm standing here
I swear it really does appear
That a change comes over us
Yes some change comes over us
And its glimpsed for one shining moment
And this change it feels like a change that is real
but then it passes
Along with the season
And then we just go back to the way we were
Say it isn't so

Tell me that I'm not just a dreamer
Tell me...cause I'm talking with a friend
And he knows how it ends
He says its easier
He says that's just the way we are
That its just human nature and its the way we are

Say it isn't so
Say it isn't so

-- Wayne Coyne

Merry Christmas everyone!!!
