PAINTED AND PETRIFIED

One of the MUST sees if you are traveling along Interstate 40 [route 66] is the Painted Desert and Petrified Forrest --especially if it is during monsoon season when the desert is soooo green that you can't even really call it a desert. I think these pictures speak for themselves. The last five I have embedded full size so don't forget to click on them to see all of the areas grandeur. Enjoy.

GET YOUR KITSCH ON 66

I love the open road of the southwest. Humongous clouds, views that extend to infinity.

Roadside burger joints like Blake's Lottaburgers with cheese and bacon and green chili!! Not to mention pebble ice instead of traditional ice cubes. Can't be beat.

All the relics of Route 66. Some fading away like Twin Arrows trading post or the now extinct dinosaur museum that was between Holbrook and Wiinslow, AZ. Sigh.

...and there it goes...

GET YOUR KICKS ON 66

I love driving across the desert southwest in July/August. The monsoon storms are in full swing and the desert is sooooo green. Never know what you'll see. Case in point:

Is he still in the race???

I thought I would stop by 'the tower' since I was in the area.

Although the desert southwest is beautifully green it is very humid. You have to be careful not only for the lightning storms but the flash floods and sudden cloudbursts as well.

Next up: Rabbit vs Dinosaur!!

ON LOCATION!!

Howdy folks. I will be on the road in August for several trips, some by plane some by car -- I have to use up my vacation days before I lose the time off October 1st. I could just cash em in but I'd rather seek adventure!!

First up is another trip to Arizona with some great new vistas. Here is just a sample. I'm busy organizing them as we speak...er type? Stay tuned.

I'm out for now.
