SAY "CHEESE"
See the video below.
I get a kick out of seeing school kids with placards [especially the one dressed as a milk carton LOLOL] protesting a 'cheese sandwich' for lunch. Since when is getting a free meal in the first place PUNISHMENT???!!!!
They should be protesting their parents for not FEEDING THEM!!!!
And just who exactly sat around on their arse watching this debt grow to $140,000??!!! Shouldn't a red light have gone off at, oh.... $10,000? or $50,000???

The Cheesiest
What do you do when you are a school system with over $140,000 in unpaid lunch debt from parents ?
If you are the Albuquerque Public School system you give the kids a cold cheese sandwich instead of a hot nutritious meal until their parents pony up the dough.
Is this right? Should taxpayers have to pay for meals when parents are not responsible?? Should a child have to pay for a parents neglect?? The schools will let a low-income child continue to eat hot lunch for up to 10 days before they get the cheese sandwich. I believe its 1 day for students who pay full price. Taxpayers foot that bill.
Monday night the Albuquerque Public School Board will decide whether to continue the controversial cheese sandwich policy
Some parents have spoken out against the program saying it embarrasses their children and singles them out.
It frustrates me to no end to see parents NOT taking the responsibility for their childrens health. There are public assistance/lunch programs for many families, in fact, most of the debt has come from children who pay full price for their meals.
When I was a kid my mom use to make my lunch every night and have it waiting in the fridge for us to grab on the way out the door.
Since the school board enacted the cheese sandwich policy over $40,000 dollars has been collected from delinquent parents.
I do feel for the kids to a degree but I believe the responsibility lies with the parents to make sure their kids are taken care of.

I've noticed the light outside beginning to change and birds have begun to return. It's put me in an Edward Hopper kind of mood. The above photo is one of my own favorites. Although I did not consciously have Hopper in mind when I took this picture [he primarily worked with oil and color] I find I have always thought about angles and light as are apparent in his paintings.
We are still in the middle of winter and January and February can be our coldest months but I'm hoping for an early spring.
It's been slow going on adventures in the southwest, still a bit cold to get out; however a major road trip this spring is in the planning stages. Stay tuned...until then tune into this:

SLIM SHADY
I told you guys when he was announced for the position of Commerce Secretary he was shady. Shady just seems to be following Obamarama around doesn't it.
New Mexico Governor Bill Richardson, 61 has withdrawn his name from consideration as commerce secretary under future Prez Barack Obamarama. He cites an on-going investigation about business dealings in New Mexico [can you say Manny Aragon]?
A Grand Jury in New Mexico is currently looking into charges of "pay-to-play" in the awarding of a state contract to a company that contributed to Richardson.
Richardson has said, "Let me say unequivocally that I and my administration have acted properly in all matters...blah blah blah blah..."
Richardson has said he will remain New Mexico Governor for now, which means Diane Denish will not be the first female governor of NM.
You know she's pissed.

TWO FOR TWO!!
Congratulations are in order for the team that put New Mexico's Rose Bowl Parade float, 'HATS OFF NEW MEXICO BEEP BEEP!' together and won the Bob Hope Humor Award for "most comical and amusing".
This years float had Wiley E Coyote chasing Road Runner along Route 66.
This is the second straight year the Land of Enchanments float entry has won a major award.
The float was designed by award-winning float designer Raul Rodriguez and built by Fiesta Parade Floats of Pasadena, CA under contract with the NM Tourism Department.
Two of the riders on the float were the daughter and grandson of Chuck Jones, animation genius behind the characters.
Last years float, PASSPORT TO OUR WORLD AND BEYOND, featured an alien family visiting New Mexico in their spaceship. It went on to win the Grand Marshals Trophy for excellence in creative concept and design.
Great job everyone!! Here's to next year!.
Oh yeah... HAPPY NEW YEARS EVERYONE!!!
I'm out.
